Eat like a bird? Hmmm....

All my life I've heard people say "eats like a bird" to describe someone who doesn't eat much... but I have to say that from what I've seen this winter, that I'm not sure that's a very accurate description....

We started out feeding some of the sunflowers we grew this summer and some bagged seed here and there. Here a cardinal couple and a blue jay enjoy the cuisine.

We also saw sparrows and mourning doves.... Then we got a really cool big feeder for Christmas ... and it didn't take the birds long to find it-- and eat, and eat, and eat!

Blue Jays

Cardinals, sparrows... and the dark guy in the front middle is a brown-headed cowbird. I had never noticed one up close before. We looked it up on whatbird.com and found out what he was.

Then I think he must have told his fifty closest friends about our feeders. They were all over the place-- and on the other feeder too, but I scared them off before I could get that picture taken.

The finch are some of my favorites to watch. We have several American Goldfinch and House Finch who stop and visit.

I guess you could say it's the number off birds eating that makes all the food disappear and not that one bird eats so much... but whatever the case, they sure do go through the birdseed!

No Internet? HELP!!!

Monday night (Feb 18) the beautiful snow that had been falling turned into nasty icy stuff... and covered everything! It was actually very beautiful... but my Internet went down. And all day Tuesday it didn't work at all... so by Wednesday Ron was ready to see if he could fix it. (I wasn't whining and complaining--really!) He chipped the ice off the antenna so he could climb it... then securely planted a ladder to keep him on the roof...

Have I mentioned it was REALLY icy everywhere... or that I fell FLAT trying to walk out and make sure he was going to be ok?! Anyway... He climbed up, knocked some ice off, and had it working in no time!

Then I handed him the camera so he could get a shot of the roof vent. The icicles were spinning around with it, and it looked really cool. I guess we should have done a little video clip and put it on youtube... but we didn't, sorry.

Just for the record... The next ice storm coated everything, and the internet was down again... and he climbed back up and cleaned it off again. My hero!

He also found a way to beat Buster in a race--wear ice skates!
