It was time to attempt a Four-Season Harvest (which also happens to be a book by Eliot Coleman with lots of great ideas we used). We got some old windows from the old school in Eldorado, and Ron custom-built the frame to fit them. Fortunately, we got a few more than we needed, because we broke a few along the way... and these are the last two! Next year-- plexiglass!
The lettuce and spinach grew rather slowly through the winter, but when we picked it and ate a fresh salad-- the flavor was AMAZING! Now that the days are getting longer and warmer, the plants are growing like crazy. I've been starting some new ones in soil-filled eggshells and transplanting as they sprout. The patch in the back right of the garden (top pic) is where I removed a spreading oregano plant (to share) and put several of the new sprouts. Now we're eating a salad or two a day most days-- and looking forward to planting the rest of the garden....
